What can I expect?
The Best Food Markets in the Kent
Is there a better way of travelling around the Kent countryside than by embarking on a tour of the best food markets? We think not. Allow us to plan your route now.
When it comes to Great British food markets we really are spoiled for choice. The Times, The Daily Telegraph and iNews all named Penshurst as one of the best food and farmers markets in the UK.
Set against the wonderful backdrop of Penshurst Place, this thriving market now has over 25 regular stalls providing a huge variety of fresh, local produce. Particularly popular are the fresh fish and seafood, free-range meat and game, bread, pies and deli products, cheeses and craft ciders. You’ll also find fruit and vegetables, chutneys and jams, cakes, plants and fresh flowers in season.
With many surrounding villages and towns of Kent offering weekly markets this e-bike tour is a fantastic way to enjoy a day out on the electric bike whilst exploring the local markets.
Many of these markets begun hundreds of years ago, in 1285 Edward I granted the village of Shipbourne permission to hold a weekly market. In May 2003 the parochial Church Council re-inaugurated the market and this year, 2024 they will be celebrating their 21st Anniversary.
Locals and visitors come regularly to these Markets to shop and enjoy a cup of coffee and meeting with friends and continually organisers seek to keep the Markets vibrant, viable and interesting, but to do this they do need the support of more regular shoppers. A lot of these markets now have an average of 20 stalls each week and are able to offer a wide range of fresh local produce of high quality at competitive prices. Additional seasonal items, e.g. asparagus, soft fruit and flowers, are also available with a friendly team of volunteers always available at all times to lend a hand.
Our aim is simple: we want to give our customers the opportunity to explore the local area whilst supporting locals with the opportunity to buy high quality, fresh, seasonal food and drink direct from independent local producers. And when we say local, we mean local: most of the produce comes from Kent and Sussex (which means that it is grown, reared or caught here) with just one or two stallholders based in neighbouring Surrey. Many of the prepared foods (pies, jams, deli foods etc) are handmade locally, using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
This e-bike tour will be routed to suit your chosen Market, whether you would like to visit just one of more of the local markets we will hand pick the best e-bike routes to map out the perfect day for you on the e-bike. Just be sure to bring a rucksack so you can pick up some goodies along the way.
Here we select our favourites – your bellies can thank us later.
