This tour is a countryside scenic route around Sevenoaks Weald Village. Enjoy an almost effortless climb up Bayley’s hill using the pedal assistance, with spectacular views across the Weald Valley.
As you reach Sevenoaks, this route will take you parallel to Knole Deer Park. Home to hundreds of wild Deer for over 500 years. This medieval park was created in 1456 when Archbishop Bourchier first enclosed the area with a fence to make a park for deer hunting. It is the last of its kind in Kent and certainly not used for Hunting anymore!
Park up the ebike and climb the spiral stairs in the Gatehouse Tower for panoramic views of the parkland and a 1930s-inspired festive atmosphere. Starting in the Great Hall you can warm yourself by the roaring fire, as many a visitor to Knole would have done on a winter’s day, taking in the sparkling tree, splendid table display and Christmas carols playing in the background. Once you’ve soaked up the atmosphere in the hall, explore the Ballroom, Reynolds Room, Cartoon Gallery and King’s Room and their frost-themed decorations.
Grand trees and glistening decorations fill a selection of the historic showrooms inside Knole House with sparkling displays inspired by Knole’s silver collection. Objects normally tucked away in the King’s Room will take centre stage across the showrooms, alongside towering trees draped with silver and frosted decorations.
You’ll also find two shops at Knole inside Green Court, perfect for some stress-free shopping and ideal for picking up some Christmas gifts or festive fare for your table. In the gift shop there are decorations, accessories, jewellery, throws, cushions, toiletries and more. There’s also a range of jams, pickles, biscuits and drinks as well as seasonal additions of mince pies, Christmas puddings, chutneys and festive tipples. In the bookshop you’ll find a wide selection of brand new books, with a section dedicated to children’s titles and activity sets. There are books on gardening, cooking, history, notable figures from Knole’s past, art, nature and the local area. There are also calendars and diaries for 2025 and greetings cards to browse.
Whatever you buy, every purchase is helping to conserve Knole and help us carry out essential work to preserve the collection.
Continue your ride through a small village named Stone Street towards Ightham and Immerse yourself in Christmas. When you’re ready and finished exploring our trail continue your journey back down the hill for a little tipple in one of our recommended pubs.
