What can I expect?

Thirty metres below the edge of north west Kent is a maze of chalk tunnels.

The caves at Chislehurst in Kent, are a labyrinth of man-made tunnels, carved out over hundreds of years and forming a maze covering over 6 Hectares and are up to 30 metres below the homes and woodlands above.

Join a guide on a fascinating 45 minute lamp-lit tour where you can hear about the history of the caves and learn about

  • The romantic Victorian stories of the Druids, Romans and Saxons
  • The guarded munitions stores of World War I
  • Mushroom growing in the 1930s
  • The Caves being used as the largest deep air-raid shelter outside London and underground town of World War II, protecting over 15000 people every night during the Blitz
  • The haunted passages
  • The Caves during the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s when they were used as a music venue for dances and concerts.

As well as guided tours the visitor centre includes a café, gift shop and picnic area.

This tour also includes full access to the Electric bike for the day.
